Lightbulb Argh.. It seems a waste..

I don't know if anyone feels the same, but I really want to play Guild Wars again properly.. But it just feels when GW2 is released I will obviously, like the fair majority, will go over to GW2 - which makes me feel like playing GW1 at the moment is really pointless and it's not going to be any meaningful or achieve anything knowing when I start GW2 it's going to get me nothing...

Surely ArenaNet can think of a few more things we could maybe pass over or some special effect/item(s)/something(!?) that we could work for over the next 2 years that would want to make us feel like were playing the next 2 years for a reason.. So when GW2 is released, we worked for something exclusively - obviously not some item(s)/effects that give a huge advantage over new players - but just something! To make playing GW1 over the next 2 years worthwhile and something a bit more to go for other than Hall of Monuments...

Anyone else agree or have any input, suggestions or ideas to put forth to this?

Note: Not sure if this goes into Sardelac Sanitarium but what the hell...

I haven't worked for anything in the game, I play for fun and things I get are part of the fun. When it becomes work then I will to quit.

I never understand threads like this. Why should you need something to carry over to GW2 to make it worthy to play through the original again?

If you enjoy Guild Wars, then isnt that enough reason to make it worth playing? To me it definitely doesnt feel like a waste because i play the game because i actually enjoy playing it, not so i can obtain some elite items.

A very good and fair point Risky Ranger.. I do play for fun but right now I want to play for fun but feel like I'm playing for 'something' that is going to help or gain me something in GW2, but that's just me...

I can't really find anything these days in GW to keep myself entertained and play in a fun manner.. Now you may say "don't play" or "quit" then.. But the fact is I've had and played Guild Wars since the beginning, my account is over 30+ months old and I just want to carry on being the 'veteran' but have something to do.

Farming is tedious and boring.. AB is full of idiots, GvG seems lacking something, and there's no real guild I can find that is active and into it all that is based in the UK were I can feel at home and friendly.. PvP just seems to be all the same builds run everywhere, or no one will accept you unless your r3/6/9 whatever...

You realize there are a lot of other games out there, right?

And that GW has no subscription fees?

Just checking.

Do what I do, take some time off the game, and if you return to it, so be it, if not, um, well, again, its a game. Games are meant to be fun.

Unless you are a gold farmer... which means... OMG, HES A GOLD FARMER, OVER HERE GOLD FARMER QUICK QUICK BAN BAN! RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE!

Just enjoy the game for what the game is in itself. Do not think about a future for you will only be creating hopes for things that may or may not come.

You originally got the game and didn't even know that there was going to be a Part 2 or even a BMP, you got the game because you wanted to have fun. Go ahead, keep having it

My point is, do not think about the future, take one step at a time. Stop worrying about a second part you do not have, live the one that you have.

I don't "play" GW anymore I may log in for 5 minutes to talk to people I've met but other than that I play Assassin's Creed, Guitar Hero III, Call of Duty 4, Baldur's Gate (The original saga) <--oh yeah old school, Diablo 2, Oblivion, etc...

If a games stops being fun then stop playing it especially if you aren't out any money for quiting. It will always be there should you want to go back.

Eh... it's a game. Get over it.

If you want a sense of achievement play real life.

QFT.

Games should be fun and not necessarily achievement based.

Personally, the whole GW2 thing hasn't changed how I play/enjoy GW at all, with the exception of settling on armor rather than hoping new styles will come out lol.

I enjoy the game...period. HoM for me is just a pretty display. I don't worry what will/will not get passed or rewarded in GW2. I'll cross that bridge when it comes out, no point worrying now. My chars aren't "pointless" somehow because of GW2...They represent 2+ years of fun

Think you have to ask why did you play before GW2 was announced.

That said I kinda understand. So go play something else for a while and see if you miss it, I know I did and will do once something worth playing is released.

As already stated - it`s just a game, not a job, you don`t have to play it. It`s just something to do if you enjoy it, if you don`t then stop and try something else.

Btw I think the HoM is a cool idea, at least it`s something and much better than nothing, whatever the something might be.

If you play games for fun, play guild wars.

If you play games because you have a misguided sense of accomplishment and feel that you need to be congratulated by people you don't know on the internet for a piece of bling attached to an online character, you need to get a life.

In fact, all of your accomplishments are completely useless when you die, so why bother doing anything in your life?

So if you're not playing GW for fun, why are you playing it?

And also: Damn, I love this new avatar. Might turn it into a red Spy, though.

its going to be another year at least before gw2 goes beta, thats another year you can play gw1.....
I am NOT going over to gw2 so I see no problem continuing on playing gw1 until the turn the servers off (or another version of windows comes out that it can not be played on).
If you are still wondering, try playing new characters, have you played every profession----and gotten titles on them all? Have you tried all the combos of those.....(I have 16 characters that I play, I wont be getting bored and if I do I start another one where I hadnt started one before, I have characters in all parts of all chapters so there is always something to do).
I see no waste.....

Real life farming is called mugging

I agree with the OP, it would be nice to have some more goals, i dont think he was saying that he hates playing and only does so to get ingame achievements, i think he was saying that attaining the achievements is fun, which i think is the core to any MMO.

I'm not going to bother with GW2 because it will all be meaningless when GW3 is released.

/end sarcasm

Well... farming gold in game means you have to work for it.

I suppose it's kind of similar.
